I disagree. The Mets can conserve him because they have J.J. Putz. If he ever needs to ice his arm or get rest, Putz can always substitute. Also, the Mets only signed him to a three year deal which is much safer than the deal he sought out prior to December and the Winter Meetings. One last comment, K-Rod doesn't have to prove himself capable of 55+ saves. As long as he never goes below the 30-50 range, he's fine.
